I started gardening with my Dad when I was 13 years old. I grew up on our poultry farm in Reading, Massachusetts. I was the youngest of four and really had a good childhood on our farm. My Grandfather lived next door with 21 acres of woodland and garden. There was a big barn there that we used to play in and jump in the hay. We all had our chores to do but being the youngest, mine were light. My sister, Lillian. left home to work in the Boston City Hospital. My oldest brother, Jim, took over the farm out of high school but didn't like it. My brother Bill and I were very close growing up but he went off to college. I took over the farm and lived with my folks until I joined the Naval Air Force. During that time I was married to my wife, Ruth. After leaving the Navy, we bought a farm in Lee N.H. and have lived in the area ever since. |
